Mickey McDonald: There are three activities. One’s a sorting sentence activity. One is an online interactivity. And one is small group that’s going to be working with me.

McDonald: I wanted a way to be able to work with students while other students are still engaged in content learning. Blended learning offers ways to differentiate instruction that aren’t always available in a teacher-directed or traditional classroom.

Kristin Weller: Blended learning is a combination of online and face-to-face learning. A lot of the face-to-face stuff is still the most important thing to me. The online tools are there to help make understanding even better.

Susan Bouslough: There is a misconception with blended learning that the teacher will be unavailable for students and that they’re going to be on their iPads all of the time, and that’s so untrue.

Kareem Farah: I can have discussions with students who fail to fully grasp an assignment and need to revise. I can have discussions with students who are struggling in the exit ticket and need to be reassessed.

Ms. Pfiester: Hello, second-grade friends. It’s Ms. Pfiester, and today we’re going to work together to learn to make a 10 to add. By the end of our lesson—

Farah: The biggest benefit of all of this is that now my entire class time is spent working with students, so all my actions in the room are designed to support students who need my help while others can flourish.

Student: X equals 4.

Farah: Yes. Whoo.
